these are amazong photos - glad to see a bunch of guys that use their rigs!!

A winch is REALLY nice to have, but the investment is steep once you factor in all the equipment (winch, bumper, recovery straps)....BUT it does allow you to go more places, esp as a solo truck.

yea i agree, alot of upfront cost. If you build your own stuff though it is alot cheaper but the winch itself is still pricey but worth it when your stuck in the middle of nowhere. Especially since we always go out on our own so there is no one else to pull us out

If you do buy a winch, stay away from the $hit cheap brands, they are junk. There is nothing more frustrating then a winch not working when you're stuck and then you just end up buying a better one further down the road.

Also, for our rigs, you dont need to go as big as 12k, but it is nice to have. If you go smaller and your winch is really struggling, you can always throw a pulley on there to double the strength of your pull.

After seeing one of these the other day on the tv show the yukon men, I thought that it would be a neat idea
as long as you had hook points on either the front or rear you were golden
http://www.baileyson...?item=LW 400MK2
watch their video there...
for the front you strap the winch to a tree or other anchor point & do it almost in reverse

Wharton state forest. Hung up on something under the water. Also, the mud at the bottom was spoupy and I was burried almost instantly.

Filled the interior with water.

But at the end of the day, it's an $850 4000# winch that you also have to have a real chainsaw to run, which will end up being $250 used to $900 new. Worse than that, you have to stand right in the path of any broken line coming right at you. Or, you can get a $360 Smittybilt XRC-10, which has worked well for me and many others, or $800 for a Warn winch, and sit behind a windshield and engine with the controller.

Yes man. I live outside of Philly. I noticed bowtiefreak lives in Philly. So we got a couple members on the East Coast pretty local. I'd definatly be up for a Wharton Trip sooner or later
