what do you use, recommend ?

I want my winch to be removable & as such I need one of these so no one can short out my battery....

needs around 300 amps it appears

found these 2 on Summit racing that are cheap enough without going into debt  & they seem to handle the appropriate amount of current for my winches needs

http://www.summitracing.com/compare

it'll be mounted under the hood out of sight from prying eyes, so the worst case if I have to open the hood to turn it on once in a blue moon

Your link didnt give me anything to see.. Not sure what you are looking it.

Back in my days working at the motor shop, all the muscle car guys used these types of post disconnects on their rigs..

Not sure if that does what you are looking for though.

Ohh, gotcha. Okay. Wasn't sure how they worked.. I just remember we had to restock those things what seemed like every week because a lot of muscle car guys bought them for their cars.

well then it might help if you gave us more info on what you need. how much power do you think you're going to suck through the switch? not sure how much more you need since both options are designed to run the entire vehicles power through them?

Any big rig/tractor trailer part stores around? Last one I bought for work from a local store here was under $20 if I remember right. We use them on the electric/hydraulic power packs for the crusher.

EDIT: They are like this style...
