I have an Engo 12k winch, that has been excellent. Ive used it a bunch of times for different things (recovery, dragging trees, recovering others, etc..) I noticed that its starting to kind of leak around the housing where the end bolts on. Is this a sign that it overheated at some point?

I had to take my Superwinch apart one day to clock it....the only thing I could think of is 2 things:
1) The gasket(s) have a tear in them allowing this leak
2) I'm guessing you have some form of a heavy grease in there that may have thinned out due to overheating

If you're confident in taking one apart (BE VERY CAREFUL), I would open it up and check out the insides. Give the manufacturer a call and see what they say...it might be as simple as relubing and a new gasket.

Im was thinkingthe same thing about the heavy grease thinning out. Ill probably pull the end off replace the grease, check everything other and replace the gasket.

I wish I could give you advice on the grease, but I'm not sure what my winch used.

How did your batteries & alt handle the work load from winching so often?

when i first got the winch we went on a trip to some mountains where there was a ton of snow and had to winch a bunch of times in one night. That ended up killing the battery and ruining the alt. After that trip though i made a dual battery setup with an optima yellow top and a solenoid isolator and never had issues with the winch killing anythign again

It was funny trying to make it back down the mountain with almost no lights, no guages, in the middle of the night through the snow. I took a video of what my guages were doing

I've heard Utah started seeing snow already. When does it hit the peaks near you?

I remember snow just a bit north of you out in flagstaff

I remember swimming in the river off the side of the highway in tuscon though

I lived in glendale for 3 months & got the heck out of there too much heat
