interesting its a 3/4 ton model

&  it appears to have a rear stabilizing bar to steady it too

gotta see this behind your rig in order to put it in comparison

looks like its more of a m101 model than a M416

You are getting numbers mixed up. This is a M116 not 416 its a variant of the M101. instead of the short wall box 1 ton this is a utility flatbed. Both bolts onto the same frame. This probabnly had a generator on it or something like that.

That little hole in the surge brake controller between the two vertical bars is to insert a pin when backing up a hill so surge brakes will not engage.

Another difference is that your trailer has fender extenders while mine has one piece fenders, what year is it?

Its a 1992 M116A3 3/4ton. Nice to know on the cross pin hole for backing up but I am still on the fence of getting rid of the brakes and just keeping the parking brakes. Im going to have EBC 3/4 ton 4wheel disc brakes on the Mule. and the trailer wont be used all the time just when its an extended stay or we have friends with us.

I like the surge brakes over electric and even w/vehicle that has excellent brakes the surge will assure proper stopping IMHO.

We are leaning towards no brakes right now. 1) no one can find drums for these. 2) parts for the Surge system is pretty much impossible as well. 3) I am trying to lean up some space on the tongue and shave weight. I am thinking the plan is to sell these parts to military collectors looking to finish off their trailers and down the road if I want I can change over to electrics.

I forgot to tell you that bed on your trailer is a dump bed too the two bolts above the lower frame in front of deck get replaced w/pins to use the dump feature, simply set both hand brakes, pull the pins and backup the bed then tilts and dumps the load.

Parts are easy w/some searching and surge brake boosters are used in many equipment setups even if you have to adapt the mounting points.

Be advised the military surge brake system uses silicone brake fluid only and should be changed out with good DOT 3 or 5+

You can get some weight off the trailer by using forged aluminum alloy wheels

That was actually one of the first things I found out about this M101 basic frame was the tilt option. You don't really see it used much. I plan to just leave the bolts in. The surge system is in fact going to go away. I already may have someone lined up for the parts. We are going to leave the parking brakes in  and down the road if it feels like we need brakes I will just swap out the axle and go to electrics with a parking brake.
