As many of you are aware (or are about to be), GMC4x4 has restrictions on the size of image uploads. This is for images you upload directly to the site, embedding through an online medium (i.e. Photobucket) has no restrictions.
This is for two reasons - server space and bandwidth usage.
As an example, if large files (1mb+) were allowed, the speed at which pages load would increase quite dramatically and so would our need for additional servers. By keeping file sizes down, it allows the community to operate much more efficiently and promotes the use of embedding photos/vids/etc into posts through linking (i.e. facebook, photobucket, etc); these companies are equipped to handle larger loads.
With that in mind, there is a tool I used today that I found very valuable for avatars and signatures. It allows you to resize the image, so it fits within the community parameters.
This is the first time I've used the site and it's free - if you run into any problems using it, please let us know and I'll look elsewhere for a better converter.
If you have any questions on the resizer (how to use it), let me know and I'd be happy to help you out.
